  1. A research project undertaken by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, a public technical and research university located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN), has helped triple the number of Irrawaddy dolphins in Odisha’s Chilika lake, Asia’s largest natural water reservoir.
  2. PM Modi launched “My Life My Yoga”, a video blogging contest. The contest is to be conducted as a joint effort of the Ministry of AYUSH and ICMR (Indian Council of Cultural Research).
  3. The Supreme Court of India recently ordered to change a plea that requested to change India’s name into Bharat into a representation. The petition that was submitted to the court seeks to amend Article 1 of the Constitution. The petition demands to struck-off ‘India’ from the Article.
    • Article 1 says “India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States”. India is already called Bharat according to the Constitution.
  4. Ministry of AYUSH has recommended the Arsenicumalbum, a homeopathic drug. The drug has been recommended for preventive use of COVID-19.
  5. The State of Telangana was formed on June 2, 2014. To commemorate the formation of the state, every year Telangana Statehood Day is celebrated on June 2.
  6. The Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Mauryaa greed to declare Gairsain as the new summer capital. The Gairsain is also called Bhararisen.
  7. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a distinct color band for the number plate sticker of BS-VI vehicles.
    • BS-VI vehicles will carry a green strip of 1 cm width on the top of the existing sticker.
    • The petrol fuel vehicles should hold orange color and diesel fuel vehicles should carry a blue color.

  17. Rajasthan has announced ‘Indira Rasoi Yojna (Indira Kitchen Scheme) to provide pure and nutritious food to the economically weaker sections of the society.
  18. Madhya Pradesh has become the number one contributing state of wheat, outpacing Punjab this year.
    • However, Punjab is still ahead of Madhya Pradesh in productivity per hectare of wheat.
  19. Recently the best performing states were honored under the National TB Eradication Program 2019. Their details are as follows-
    • In the category of small states with a population of fewer than 50 lakhs, Nagaland and Tripura have been awarded for the best performance under the National TB Eradication Program in the year 2019.
    • In the categories of large states with a population of more than 50 lakhs, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh were honored as the best performing states.
    • Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu have been voted the best performers in the Union Territory category.
  20. Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the Devika Bridge over Devika River in Udhampur.
    • Along with this, under construction Puneja Bridge of Bhaderwah-Basholi-Pathankot National Highway in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir also inaugurated.
    • The construction work of these two bridges is done by the Border Roads Organization.

  1. India has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a two-year term from the Asia-Pacific category for the 2021-22 term
    • Along with India, Ireland, Mexico and Norway also won the Security Council elections.
    • India was a candidate for a non-permanent seat from the Asia-Pacific category for the 2021-22 term.
  2. The United States of America is facing nationwide protests over the death of an African American George Floyd
    • George Floyd, an African American man of age 46 died after the police arrested him near a shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This has created the current unrest in the country.
  3. A group of eight democracies has launched Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China
    • The Alliance was formed by Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Lithuania, Norway, Netherlands, and the USA.
    • The European Union was also present when the representatives from these countries discussed issues related to China.
  4. The Indian Naval Ship Kesari reached Port Victoria in Seychelles to provide COVID-19 related medicines under Mission Sagar.
  5. Russia declared a state of emergency after oil spilled into the Ambarnaya river
  6. India has joined the Global Partnership of Artificial Intelligence as a founding member.
    • The other leading member countries that joined along with India are UK, USA, European Union, Australia, France, Canada, Germany, Mexico, Italy, Republic of Korea, Singapore, New Zealand, etc. 
    • The Gee-Pay or GPAI-Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence is a multi-stakeholder initiative that will guide development of Artificial Intelligence.
  7. Swedish think-tank SIPRI has launched the SIPRI Yearbook, 2020 which states that India and China have increased their nuclear arsenal as compared to 2019. India has 150 nuclear warheads.
    • China had 290 and Pakistan has around 150 to 160 nuclear warheads.
  8. The world’s first Yoga University outside India was launched in Los Angeles.
    • The name of this university is Vivekananda Yoga University (VaYU).
  9. The foundation of the first Hindu temple in Islamabad was laid.
    • This temple is being built on a plot of 20,000 square feet in the capital of Pakistan.
    • The Islamabad Hindu Panchayat has named the temple as Sri Krishna Mandir.
  10. The world’s fastest supercomputer, Fugaku, has been developed by Japan.
    • It will be ready for launch in April 2021.
  11. Russia has supported India for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.
    • Recently, India has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for two years that will begin from 1 January 2021.

  12. Recently, China has asserted its authority over the Senkaku Islands of Japan after a violent confrontation with India over the issues of Galwan Valley.
  13. Two eruptions occurred in Mount Merapi, Indonesia’s most active volcano.
  14. China has claimed the entire Galwan Valley.
    • This includes areas that are currently on the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
    • This is seen as an extension of China’s already known territorial claims in the region.
    • The Chinese Foreign Ministry has said that India has built roads, bridges, and other facilities in the Galwan Valley region unilaterally.
    • China is making a new claim to the LAC in the region, for which there was a violent clash between the armies of the two countries in the region on 15 June.
    • This was the worst violence on the border since 1967, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed.

  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the technology platform called CHAMPIONS.
    • CHAMPIONS Stand for Creation and Harmonious Application of Modern Processes for Increasing the Output and National Strength.
  2. On June 5, 2020, the Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the “Nagar Van” scheme on the occasion of Environment Day.
    • The scheme emphasizes on urban forestry. Under the scheme, around 200 urban forests are to be developed all over the country in the next five years.
  3. Yale University recently released the biennial Environment Performance Index (EPI) 2020. Topper- Denmark
    • India scored 168th rank out of 180 countries.
    • All the South Asian countries were ahead of India except Afghanistan.
  4. The Government of India has allocated Rs 1,01,500 crores under the MGNREGA program in the year 2020-21 so far.
    • This is the highest provision of funds allocated for the scheme since its launch.
  5. The Government of India has extended its flagship program, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (Ayushman Bharat) to the migrant workers.
    • Earlier, GoI had announced that the Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries will receive free COVID-19 testing.
  6. According to Mercer’s 2020 Cost of Living Survey, Mumbai is the 60thmost expensive city in the world.
    • Also, it is 19thmost expensive in Asia.
    • The global list created by the survey was topped by Hong Kong, followed by Ashgabat in Turkmenistan.
    • The third position was retained by the Tokyo of Japan and Zurich of Switzerland.
  7. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched Food Safety Indexof the year 2019-20 which is topped by states of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. 
    • Among the smaller states, Goa topped the ranking followed by Manipur and Meghalaya.
    • Among Union Territories Chandigarh, Delhi, and Andaman islands topped the ranking.
    • The Food Safety Index was released on World Food Safety Day under the Theme: Food Safety is everyone’s business.
  8. According to UNCTAD’s World Investment Report 2020, India ranked the 9th largest recipient of the foreign direct investment in 2019.
  9. Surakshit Dada-Dadi, Nana-Nani Abhiyan has been launched for senior citizens.
    • The campaign has been launched to ensure the well-being of 2.9 million seniors during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
    • The campaign has been launched as a collaborative effort between NITI Aayog, Piramal Foundation, and 25 Aspirational districts.
  10. Recently, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, launched the e-BloodServices Mobile Application of the Indian Red Cross Society.
    • This mobile app was developed by the e-blood team of the Center for Development of Advanced Computing under the Digital India Scheme launched in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
    • Through this app, four units of blood can be demanded from the blood bank.

  11. Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan released the annual TB report 2020 through a virtual program. Key points of the report:
    • More than 24 lakh TB patients have been notified in 2019. These have increased by 14% compared to 2018.
    • The provision of HIV testing for all notified TB patients increased from 67% in 2018 to 81% in 2019.
    • The treatment success rate of notified patients increased by 12%.
    • ‘Nikshay’ is a web-enabled patient management system for TB control under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program.

  1. The National Highway Authority of India became the first construction sector to become digital.
    • The project management workflow of NHAI has been transformed from manual to an online portal.
  2. PK Mohanty will chair the committee formed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to review the guidelines related to ownership, governance, and corporate structure of private sector banks.
  3. According to Asian Development Outlook by the Asian Development Bank, in FY 2020-21 Indian economy is projected to contract by 4 percent.
  4. In accordance with the weekly statistical data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India’s foreign reserves crossed the 500 billion mark.
  5. Infosys becomes the first Indian company to sign Climate Pledge with Amazon and Global Optimism to become Net-Zero Carbon by 2040.

  4. Deccan Development Society (DDS)has won the Biodiversity award 2020 of Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
